Signs of The March
2019 Extinction Rebellion Climate Change Strike at Parliament Square London
From Silence to Slogan — Street Photography of Protest Signs
This blog is a tribute to the signs, statements, and stand-tall moments that show how individuals — or crowds united — try to shift the world’s direction, for better or worse depending on your perspective.
Shot on a mix of 35mm film, digital, and medium format 6x6 from 2017 to the present, this collection captures protest signs, street slogans, and personal expressions seen across cities like London, Paris, Newcastle, and Birmingham. From handwritten placards calling out for climate action to bold declarations of belief, these messages reflect the values and convictions shaping public space today.
Wherever I find myself , be it anywhere in the UK or Europe, I somehow always cross paths with a protest, a public display, or someone sharing a message, which is why I try to keep a camera with me at all times.
Right now more than ever, it feels like more people in the UK and the rest of the world are speaking out, standing up, and trying to make themselves heard about the current issues that they face.
The world is speaking, sometimes shouting through signs!
